Pangkalpinang, September 8, 2026 – Export potential does not only emerge from industrial areas and large-scale companies. Across villages in Bangka Belitung, white pepper, nipah palm leaf handicrafts, and processed fishery products have the potential to reach global markets when supported by adequate production capacity, consistent quality, sound business management, and access to markets.

To strengthen this potential, the Indonesia Eximbank (Lembaga Pembiayaan Ekspor Indonesia/LPEI), in collaboration with the Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) of the Ministry of Finance, officially inaugurated 48 Export Villages (Desa Devisa) in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The inauguration, held at Taman Merdeka Square in Pangkalpinang on Friday (August 28), forms part of the Kemenkeu Satu synergy to strengthen export capacity at the village level while promoting more diversified sources of regional economic growth.

The 48 Export Villages are centered around three key commodity clusters: pepper, nipah palm leaf handicrafts, and processed fishery products. Each cluster has distinctive products and a strong base of local businesses that can be further developed to reach broader markets.

LPEI Executive Director of Finance, Operations, & Information Technology, Anwar Harsono, said that consistency is one of the key factors enabling businesses not only to enter, but also to remain competitive in global markets.

“Product uniqueness may serve as the entry point, but what enables businesses to remain in export markets is consistency. Production capacity, product quality and specifications, business management, and financial readiness must be developed gradually before businesses engage with overseas buyers. This is where the Export Village assistance program plays an important role,” said Anwar.

The pepper cluster covers 34 villages and involves approximately 400 farmers across South Bangka and Central Bangka Regencies. The products include white pepper in both whole and powdered forms. Bangka pepper is globally recognized as Muntok White Pepper, known for its high piperine content, which gives it a distinctive sharp and pungent taste, and has obtained Geographical Indication (GI) protection.

Another promising cluster consists of seven villages producing nipah palm leaf handicrafts, involving 50 artisans in Bangka and Central Bangka Regencies. The thick, long, and flexible nipah palm leaf fibers, featuring natural color gradations ranging from brown to cream, give the handicrafts a premium character. The products are fully organic and biodegradable.

Meanwhile, the processed fishery products cluster covers seven villages and involves 36 small and medium-sized businesses in Bangka and Central Bangka Regencies. The products are made from fresh marine catches, with dozens of Small and Medium Industries (IKMs) operating within a shared production center, enabling quality standards to be strengthened and maintained in a more coordinated manner.

As a Special Mission Vehicle (SMV) of the Ministry of Finance, LPEI will support business owners through assistance ranging from institutional strengthening and export management to expanding market access.

The assistance includes training on export procedures and documentation, preparation of financial statements in accordance with accounting standards, introduction to market intelligence, financing for the shipment of product samples overseas, facilitation of laboratory testing, and participation in international trade exhibitions.

LPEI’s efforts are supported by strong cross-institutional collaboration. LPEI works in synergy with the Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb), the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, the Ministry of Industry, the Bank Indonesia Representative Office in Bangka Belitung, and the Provincial Government of the Bangka Belitung Islands. Each institution plays a strategic role in building a sustainable export ecosystem, with Bank Indonesia, the Ministry of Industry, and the Bangka Belitung Provincial Government serving as incubators for MSMEs, while LPEI, DJPb, and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise function as export accelerators.

Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province and Head of the Ministry of Finance Regional Representative Office for Bangka Belitung, Muhamad Mufti Arkan, stated, “This program is part of an effort to establish new sources of economic growth that are more diversified, inclusive, and sustainable by positioning villages as the starting point for globally oriented economic development.”

The Export Village Program is a community development-based assistance program initiated by Indonesia Eximbank to strengthen the capacity of local communities and develop village-based flagship commodities so that they can penetrate export markets. The program is aligned with Indonesia Eximbank’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework, while also supporting the Government’s Asta Cita priorities.
