Trade Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Ottawa Facilitates Market Entry for Seven Indonesian SMEs
Jakarta, July 2 2026 — The Export Market Access Program, jointly implemented by the Indonesian Eximbank (LPEI/Indonesia Eximbank) and the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, has successfully expanded market access to Canada for seven export-oriented Indonesian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Through collaboration with the Trade Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Ottawa, the participating SMEs secured export contracts valued at USD190,000 (approximately IDR3.4 billion), which were signed on March 11, 2026.
The seven SMEs—PT Kultiva, CV Menara Desa, PT Wins Organic, PT Anak Garuda Sejahtera, PT Indo Tropikal, CV Dua Sholeha, and PT Azaki International—have successfully secured export contracts with Canadian buyers. As of June 12, 2026, six companies had completed export shipments totaling USD170,000, while PT Azaki International's shipment worth USD20,000 is scheduled for July 2026.
The exported products include ready-to-eat tempeh, coconut sugar and palm sugar, ginger candy, fried shallots, and fruit chips.
This achievement reflects the sustained collaboration between Indonesia Eximbank and the Ministry of Trade in strengthening support for export-oriented SMEs to enter international markets.
Maria Sidabutar, Head of the Advisory Services Division at Indonesia Eximbank, explained that the Export Market Access Program is designed to help export-oriented SMEs enter and compete in global markets.
The program serves as one of Indonesia Eximbank's strategic initiatives to build a sustainable pipeline of new exporters. In addition to enhancing production capacity and product quality, the program prepares SMEs to meet international market requirements, including regulatory compliance, logistics readiness, and market entry strategies.
"Through the Export Market Access Program, Indonesia Eximbank provides end-to-end assistance to SMEs, ranging from product curation, quality and packaging enhancement, export compliance, business matching, to facilitating access to international markets. These export shipments demonstrate that Indonesian SMEs are fully capable of competing in global markets when supported by the right ecosystem," said Maria.
Mahdewi Silky, Trade Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Ottawa, noted that Canada continues to offer strong opportunities for Indonesian healthy food products, organic products, and tropical fruit-based products.
She added that Indonesian products have received positive market responses in Canada, particularly banana chips, mango-based processed products, and mango ingredients, all of which demonstrate significant market potential.
This positive trend is reflected in Indonesia's exports of processed food products under HS Chapters 16–21 to Canada, which increased from USD56.35 million in 2023 to USD116.56 million in 2025, representing an impressive 106.85 percent growth over the past two years.
"The remarkable growth of Indonesia's processed food exports to Canada over the past two years demonstrates the substantial market potential for Indonesian value-added products. The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Ottawa will continue strengthening its collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Indonesia Eximbank, and Indonesian businesses to further promote Indonesian products and unlock more trade opportunities in the Canadian market," said Mahdewi Silky.
Building on this momentum, Indonesia Eximbank, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Ottawa, launched the second Canada Export Market Access Program on May 12, 2026, involving 12 export-oriented SMEs that successfully passed the product curation process. Product samples from the participating SMEs have since been delivered to prospective Canadian buyers for evaluation.
The product showcase features a diverse range of food and beverage products, including biscuits, crispy skin chips, spices, gluten-free snacks, ready-to-drink beverages, and confectionery.
In addition to providing advisory services and facilitating market access, Indonesia Eximbank also supported participating SMEs by financing the shipment of product samples to Canada. The samples will be evaluated by prospective buyers as part of the commercial assessment process and the development of long-term business partnerships.
"Through these initiatives, Indonesia Eximbank, together with the Ministry of Trade and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Ottawa, will continue expanding international market access for Indonesian SMEs, particularly in Canada, enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesian products, and fostering the emergence of new exporters that contribute to Indonesia's sustainable export growth," Maria concluded.
