Go Export Villages Program Supports Export Potential of Elephant Ginger from Pacitan

Jakarta, September 6, 2023 - The significant potential of the commodity elephant ginger from Pacitan, East Java, has made this regency one of the Go Export Villages under LPEI (Lembaga Pembiayaan Ekspor Indonesia). The designation was recently inaugurated on August 24, 2023, by the Regent of Pacitan, Indrata Nur Bayuaji. This program is a collaborative effort across ministries and institutions, involving the Indonesian Export Financing Institution (LPEI)/Indonesia Eximbank, KemenkeuSatu (DJKN, DJBC, DJP, PKN STAN, DJPK), and the East Java Provincial Government.

Go Export Villages for Elephant Ginger in Pacitan encompasses nearly 11,100 farmers from 36 villages in various areas, including the Kebonagung, Pacitan, Arjosari, Punung, Bandar, Tegalombo, Nawangan, Tulakan sub-districts, and Pacitan Regency, East Java. In the development of the Elephant GingerGo Export Villages Village in Pacitan, LPEI collaborates with the Village-Owned Enterprises (Bumdes), which act as supporting institutions and guarantors of the farmers' harvests in the Elephant Ginger Go Export Villages in Pacitan.

According to BPS statistical data, ginger is categorized under HS-Code 0910, which includes ginger, turmeric, and other spices. Over the past five years (2018-2022), there has been an average compound decrease of 5.05% per year in this category. However, in 2022, the value and volume of ginger from Indonesia reached USD18.87 million and 18.75 thousand tons, respectively, showing an 8.51% year-on-year (yoy) increase in value and a 22.73% yoy increase in volume. The statistical data even indicates a growth in Indonesia's export for this commodity in the first half of 2023 (Jan-Jun) compared to the same period in 2022, with export values reaching USD21.76 million (an increase of 218.48% yoy compared to Jan-Jun 2022: USD6.83 million).

The data for 2022 identifies the top five destination countries for Indonesia's export of ginger, turmeric, and other spices (HS-0910) as India (45.64%), Malaysia (11.73%), Bangladesh (6.14%), Japan (4.67%), and Singapore (3.48%). India remains the largest global exporter in this category with a share of 19.10%, followed by China (15.80%), the Netherlands (8.34%), Turkey (4.71%), and Spain (4.33%), while Indonesia holds the 24th position. As for the top global importers in this category, the United States leads with a share of 13.66%, followed by Germany (6.70%), the Netherlands (5.92%), Japan (5.05%), and the United Kingdom (4.52%).
