Madiun, 4 August 2026 – Lembaga Pembiayaan Ekspor Indonesia (LPEI) / Indonesia Eximbank has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Indonesia's strategic export industries by providing financing to PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero) (PT INKA) for the export of SOW6 freight wagons to New Zealand. This financing marks the continuation of the successful partnership between LPEI and PT INKA following the export financing provided in 2024.
PT INKA has secured another contract to manufacture and supply 340 Container Flat Top Wagons for UGL Rail Service Pty Limited of Australia, with the wagons to be operated by KiwiRail as the end user in New Zealand. Deliveries are scheduled in three phases throughout 2026. As part of the contract implementation, PT INKA has delivered 200 wagons between January and July 2026 from its manufacturing facility in Madiun, East Java. Approximately 20 wagons were shipped on 30–31 July 2026.
To support the execution of the contract, LPEI has extended Export Working Capital Financing and financing under the Penugasan Khusus Ekspor Alat Transportasi (PKE ATP) scheme, amounting to USD 8.5 million. The facility is intended to finance the implementation of the Manufacture of 340 Container Flat Top Wagon contract awarded to UGL Rail Service Pty Limited.
This marks the second financing facility provided by LPEI to PT INKA. Previously, in 2024, LPEI extended financing support worth USD 11.9 million to INKA Multi Solusi (IMS), comprising USD 7.7 million in financing facilities and USD 4.2 million in guarantee facilities, to support the export of freight wagons to New Zealand.
Anton Herdianto, Executive Director of Business I at LPEI, stated that LPEI's support for PT INKA reflects the Government of Indonesia's commitment, through the Ministry of Finance, to strengthening export-oriented strategic industries by utilizing the Penugasan Khusus Ekspor (PKE) or National Interest Account (NIA) facility. As part of LPEI's mandate, the PKE facility is designed to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia's strategic industries in the global market while reinforcing the country's position as a manufacturer of railway rolling stock that meets international standards."Through the PKE facility, LPEI fulfills the Government's mandate to ensure that Indonesia's leading manufactured products, such as those produced by PT INKA, continue to expand their presence in international markets. The export of these wagons to New Zealand demonstrates that Indonesian industrial products are capable of meeting stringent international standards. LPEI remains committed to supporting Indonesian exporters through financing, guarantees, and insurance services to promote sustainable export growth and contribute to the nation's economic development," said Anton.
The export of the SOW6 wagons further strengthens PT INKA's track record in the international market. The wagons have been specifically designed to meet New Zealand's technical specifications and railway operational standards, reflecting PT INKA's engineering excellence and manufacturing capability in addressing the needs of the global railway industry.
PT INKA's Director of Finance and Risk Management, Prihanto Herbowo, expressed his appreciation for LPEI's financing support, which contributed to the successful implementation of the export project. "We would like to express our sincere appreciation to LPEI for its export financing support, which has enabled PT INKA to complete the production of 250 wagons out of the total 340 units in line with the delivery schedule to New Zealand. We look forward to further strengthening this partnership so that LPEI can continue supporting PT INKA's strategic projects in the future," said Prihanto.
The successful export of the SOW6 wagons is expected to generate significant multiplier effects for Indonesia's economy by increasing the utilization of domestically produced components, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening the national manufacturing supply chain. The collaboration between LPEI and PT INKA serves as tangible evidence of effective synergy between state-owned enterprises and a government-designated export financing institution in enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesia's strategic industries and accelerating the country's export growth.
