Lombok, 8 December 2025 - Indonesia Eximbank has reaffirmed its commitment to support export-oriented SMEs through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. One of the key initiatives is the empowerment of Kemiri Foreign Exchange Village (Dessa Devisa) in Central Lombok, which has great potential to become an export commodity.

According to data gathered by the Indonesia Eximbank Institute, Indonesia currently ranks 13th in global nutmeg exports, with an export value of USD 4 million, or around 0.5% of total global exports. However, a positive trend is beginning to emerge. Indonesia's current nutmeg exports have recorded a significant increase, rising 350% annually with a value of USD 9.58 million. In terms of volume, the increase was even greater, at 413% to 6.95 thousand tons. Bangladesh and Malaysia are the main export destinations with a 64% share.

Meanwhile, the United States and China are recorded as the world's largest markets with import values of USD 500 million and USD 320 million, respectively. The unexplored market potential is also enormous, including China with a value of USD 232 million, the United States USD 82 million, Vietnam USD 28 million, Germany USD 20 million, and the Netherlands USD 10 million.

Seeing this potential, Indonesia Eximbank, through its CSR program, provides strategic support to increase the competitiveness of candlenuts from Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The assistance provided includes one Automatic Vacuum Packager machine to extend the shelf life and maintain product hygiene, two cooling/drying machines to accelerate the drying and cracking process of candlenuts, and 2,000 superior candlenut seedlings to support land rejuvenation, increase productivity, and maintain soil sustainability.

Kemiri Foreign Exchange Village in Central Lombok is a contributor to Indonesia's candlenut exports. Supported by a development program covering 40 villages and empowering around 350 farmers, 60% of whom are women core farmers, this Foreign Exchange Village has successfully achieved a production capacity of up to 120 tons per year, with 40% of sales destined for the export market.

“This program is designed to improve the quality of local candlenuts, extend shelf life, maintain post-harvest quality standards, accelerate the drying process, and support farmer empowerment to increase community income,” said Yon Arsal, Member of the Board of Directors of Indonesia Eximbank, during the handover of CSR assistance in Lombok some time ago.

This initiative also reflects Indonesia Eximbank's commitment to promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 2, which aims to end hunger and promote sustainable agriculture for high-yielding candlenut varieties; SDG 5, which promotes gender equality; and SDG 8, which promotes economic growth and employment for farmers and surrounding communities.

With this support, it is estimated that there will be a significant boost in the volume of candlenut production in Central Lombok. This increase in volume is projected to open up much greater sales opportunities and trigger economic turnover at the local community level. In addition, the potential for exporting candlenut commodities to the international market will also increase in line with the increase in candlenut production volume.

“We believe this contribution will be part of a major step towards improving community welfare while strengthening the sustainability of candlenut commodities in Central Lombok,” said Yon Arsal.
